WildGoa Trek to Tambdi Surla This weekend, WildGoa heads to Tambdi Surla in Ponda. Located 13 kms from Mollem, and about 60 kms away from Margao and Panjim, lies a village in the forests of Mollem. While the main attraction at Tambdi Surla is the small but exquisite 12th century Shiva temple of the lord Mahadeva built during the Kadamba period in Goa, we will explore the surrounding areas, including a nearby Waterfall.

WildGoans will begin trekking from the temple, into the forests, crossing streams and rivulets, fields and then into deep forests on a lesser known forest path to a magnificent waterfall known as the 'Tambdi Falls' or locally as 'Vajra Sakal Dhob Dhobo' (DhobDhobo is the Konkani translation for waterfall). During the one and half hour trek to the falls, you will spot some of the local wildlife. Previous trekking sessions have spotted Black Faced Macaques, Giant Red Squirrels, and a few snakes. When the sun comes out, the site is also good for birdwatching, and butterfly spotting. This monsoons there have been a lot of butterflies spotted such as the Common Crow, Blue Mormon and the Glass Yellow and birds such as the Blue Bearded Bee-eater.

Those interested in participation, are requested to call Clinton Vaz at 9890936828 or Rajiv D'Silva at 9890141715 and confirm participation in advance, to enable proper planning for transportation to Tambdi Surla. Participants need to bring along packed dry lunch as this is an all day event. Water from the streams is drinkable, so just bring along a drinking mug. :) WildGoa's trekking participants always take back their own waste back home, however this time we also plan to pick up garbage (plastic wrappers and plastic bottles) carelessly thrown away in the forest by irresponsible picnickers. This will then be responsibly recycled in Panjim or Margao. If you would like to volunteer in helping us clean up the forest trail, bring along a large plastic or cloth sack.

Clothing: t-shirt and short pants with non-bright colours is best. Sandals or sneakers that you don't mind getting wet for footwear. (We will cross about 4 streams and rivulets) Rainwear is optional, but be warned if you want to stay dry that in the hills of Mollem, weather is unpredictable, but moderate to heavy rainfall is certain. Bring along an optional change of clothes if you would like to return home dry.

Bringing along a bird book, butterfly book, binoculars or cameras is optional, but remember to carry your electronics in a waterproof plastic bag, to avoid destroying your expensive mobile phone or camera if you accidentally slip while crossing a rivulet. Mobile phones do not have service at Tambdi Surla.
