The reality prevailing in India Today is either Congress or BJP, in coalition, ruling India!
If congress comes to power we have Arjun Singh and if BJP comes to power, we get Murli Manohar Joshi as HRD minister, both working in their own unique style to establish their own standings in their respective Cabinet - and yet they did not succeed in their attempt! - but created turbulence in EDUCATION system! Such problems related to EDUCATION, I think could be BEST solved, as required, if some ombudsman type regulatory body overlooks the politics in Education. Equally, we need a search committee for appointing Minister of HRD instead of political compulsions deciding about the appointee. In 1987, Goa Government had decided to let Goa University be a STATE UNIVERSITY - When it was asked to choose THE OPTION for Goa University Status. ALL GOANS WELCOMED that decision. Surprisingly, after two decades, one politician and 2 -3 intellectuals of Goa, created history THAT TOO without consultative process, recommending Center to up grade existing Goa University to Central University status! On this issue I would like to pose one blunt question: Is Goa University and its 179 Hectors of land a private property of these 3 - 4 individuals? Why Government of India (to be read as MHRD) wants this conversion done? I feel, it's mostly to reduce the level of funding and get millage out of it. It is like having the cake and eating it too - for MHRD will get ready infrastructure plus have the benefit of propaganda CAMPUS during elections (which is going to take place in one year time). The idea of converting existing university into a Central University is a PLITICAL MASTER STROKE but academically UNWISE. I FEEL reasons are as follows: 1. An existing university has some traditions and practices. While inheriting good points is good, the baggage also comes with contaminations. I believe our old universities have heavier baggages of the latter types and these cannot be eliminated easily. 2. As opposed to this Goa University has to create its traditions and practices and can draw from experiences gained from other existing universities and carefully steer clear from the contaminations of the kind I mentioned in point 1. I feel this proposal of converting an EXISTING UNIVERSITY.IS a big CHEATING to SUSEGAD Goan (Are they???). What a shame .....POLITICIANS have even dragged our students to their GAME LEVEL...??????????/ Hi...Sel..Ro..including our famous J .... metric failed ...Md passed....LL. B achieved...are most welcomed to pour in their intellectual inputs, but don't forget to send your CONTRIBUTION in the BOX awaiting your feeding to the cause.....if you CANNOT CONTRIBUTE TO CAUSE ..... JUST SHUT UP.....we don't need your inputs and ..equally your non-contributing intellectuals ONTHIS SUBJECT.
