Reading the book In Black and White, I wondered why so much of the action
centers around the eighties. Two things happened in the eighties. One the
Portuguese daily Oheraldo, became an English daily and secondly, perhaps more
importantly, the first post-colonial generation finished college and came of
age. Incidentally, I too came of age in the eighties and so perhaps there is
much resonance for me in this book.

For those still wondering if liberation was good for Goa or not, please read
this book. It will assure you that the fresh and often cocky perspectives put
forward by these men could only have germinated in freedom.

Derek Almeida and Rahul Goswani's essays are so brilliant. The former hilarious
and the latter thought-provoking.
