The Davorlim Civic and Consumer Forum is a small group of village people who meet ,on the last Sunday of every month, to discuss civic and consumer issues ,and to disseminate information.Under the direction of GOACAN ,the forum has been writing letters to different Government departments,Public Grieviance Department,Essential Service Departments highlighting problems in Davorlim. The forum members have been putting forward several resolutions at the Gram Sabha meetings and taking active part in the deliberations.Using the Right to Information ,the forum members have been able to procure vital bits of information from different public departments.

The Davorlim forum is happy to share three achievements ,through sheer persistence and hard work. 1)An illegal retention wall was being constructed in the rivulet behind St Josephs chapel ,Davorlim. After writing several letters to the Water Resources Department and other concerned Departments, the work has stopped and the existing half completed structure is being demolished.

2)Acting on a complaint put in by the Gaonkars of Davorlim about an illegal structure on Communidade land, the forum wrote letters to the the Davorlim Comunidade and the Davorlim Panchayat and highlighted the issue of misuse of the land. The Davorlim Panchayat took action and razed the structure.

3)The Davorlim Civic and Consumer Forum wrote to the Postal authorities ,highlighting the inconvenience of the people of Davorlim ,with regard to paying telephone bills. The PostMaster has taken note of the complaint and found a solution ,and telephone bill payment is now being accepted at the mini Post Office ,located at the Panchayat Ghar in Davorlim.

The Davorlim Civic and Consumer Forum is pleased to share this information with members of the Public ,and the forum members have an optimistic outlook that "change " is possible and that consumers have a right to knowlegde as well as redressal.Joint Secretary Wilma Dcosta and Treasurer Mr Zino Carvalho have worked hard with different iniatives to take the forum forward.
