Mopa airport is a project for the development of Goa. It will provide thousand
of jobs. It will boost Tourism, Exports, Industries. It will make Goa
prosperous. Goans have always liked to object to any development.
I am just a common man, born and bred in Goa, and have been hearing the above
lines for the last 5 years or so. I just get 6 hours of running water during
the rainy season and may be 2 hours during summer. The water is never potable;
sometimes you cannot see the bottom of the glass. The electricity I get during
daytime is never above 180 volts, may be the balance voltage is tax deducted at
source. Many times the supply behaves as though there is water in the
carburettor. It has ruined continuously my electrical appliances. Decades back
only the corner of my backyard used to smell but now everywhere it stinks.
Rotting garbage everywhere, even some of the neighbours dump it in my property
when I’m not around. If I need to travel by the public transport, I reach my
destination as “Sardinha Tomatada”. And with that tomato sauce all over me I go
to a Government office to stare at all those empty chairs, until someone tells
me “faleam ieo”. And when “faleam” comes, it is “chaiek kiteim . . . ..”.
Whenever any of the essential services are disrupted the telephone at the other
end is always off the hook.
May be all this is my fault for not being born as a builder or a lining
developer (pocket lining). They get 24 hours water & power supply, and even
have government servants at their service.
May I humbly ask our C.M. and his Cabinet ministers whether the above cited
hardships will be alleviated or worsened by his “Development projects”?

Dr. Ferdinando dos Reis Falcão.
