Talking Photos: Patollio or Patoyo Today, 5th Aug. is Patoyo day in Velsao. Some friends of mine from Velsao came to us with freshly made hot hot patoyo or patollio and also 'Fole' see pics
Where as at Cansaulim (which is on 6th Aug. I thinK) it is popularly known as 'Choramchi Neidade' Each Church/village has it own date for neidade or patoyo. But Cansaulim is well known all over Goa as 'Choramchi Neidade' Those days, even now (i think) Cansalkars used to steal 'Konnsam' from nearby fields. They used to cut it and make 2/3 large bunches and then put it in ground (in 2/3 holes) as if pady grown there - This place is traditional place, usually close to the church. Next morning the Church priest would come here, bless it and then cut with sickle. Every one used to take home one blessed 'Konnos' each and then put it on display on the wall (Entrance hall), usually on top of wall calendars etc. What they did with that Konnos, I don't know. For that matter, once could even find 'Rama Chutti' from the Palm Sunday and a candle from Feb. 2 fiest OL of Candelaria (Kandiechi Saibinn). Neidade is also konw as 'novem' (new) in some places. I think Neidade = Novidade I have a cousin whose name is also Neidade (Netty or Natividade) Ok, check this out fresh pics Patoyo http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk1/2734587489/sizes/l/ Fole (one left unwrapped) usually made of Jackfruit's leaves http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk1/2735420578/sizes/l/ Prev.
