Hi Sandeep, Please disregard Selma, and do not do this to us!
How can you cut off our escape route? Whom do we blame when we violate the law? Whom do we blame when we fail to fight malaria? Whom do we blame when we fail to be competitive in education and more? Whom do we blame if southern states have done far better than us in the fields of education, healthcare not to speak of IT? Whom do we blame when we make oodles of money, and still find ourselves joyless? Whom do we blame for our sense of alienation, earned in part from staying away too long from the place we profess all that love for? Whom do we blame when we've sold our homes and property and then realise that Goa is no longer "ours"? And whom do we blame for Goa morphing its indentity into one we cannot cope with (when we and our own drastically-changed identities are themselves unrecognisable back in Goa)? After all, we do need our alibis. And our scapegoats. The non-Goan plays the role neatly today. Earlier, it was someone from another religion. Another caste. Or another class. (Strange, innit, with the exception of a tiny minority, we didn't have much of a problem with someone from 5000 kms away ruling over us!) Or are we just bullies, that take on someone weaker? FN
