Today is Independence Day and by coincidence or not, it also happens to be the feast of the Assumption. In Moira, we also celebrate the feast of the harvest (Novem).
On this day, a procession of Confrades and others headed by the parish priest wends its way to the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes atop Calizor plateau where the parish priest blesses the new paddy sheaves. By tradition, this procession and ceremony used to be in the morning. But this year, to keep with the needs of the times, the ceremonies were held in the evening and there was also an All Faiths Prayer Meeting. For nostalgia's sake, I have uploaded a few pictures of the ceremony. I do not lay claims to being a photographer of any quality and I am just learning the ropes of uploading pix on Flickr. So please bear with me.
