When Rene Barretto, in his position as the "Founder" of the WORLD ALLIANCE
OF GOAN ASSOCIATIONS, invited me, to head the GLOBAL GOAN KONKANI FORUM, I
immediately agreed.
I don't know why ?
Its unlike me.
After having said "yes", I got down to thinking, as to what made me do that.
After a lot of thinking, I came to this conclusion:- "Its probably because,
I have a lot more to give to Konkani, and secondly, the GLOBAL GOAN KONKANI
FORUM, needs a person like me, at this point of time"
My dear "Fellow Goans" (Mogacheam, Ganv-Bhoinnino ani Ganv-Bhavano).
At this very moment, when I think of our 'Avoi-Bhas-Konkani', the famous
words of, late President John F. Kennedy, come to my mind "Ask not, what
your country can do for you, rather ask, what you can do for your country".
I'd like to extend these "famous words" to our Goan situation, and say to
all my fellow-Goans, "Ask not, what Konkani can do for you, rather ask, what
you can do for Konkani".
Today, our mother tongue "Konkani" is at the "cross-roads", not knowing who
is pulling her in which direction, and we, her children, are not making it
any easier, for her.
Very few of us understand, that we are, what we are, because of our
mother-tongue Konkani.
You take away Konkani, and there's nothing left in us, to be called Goans.
What is Goan identity, without Konkani ?
Can Goan culture even exist, without Konkani ?
Konkani is the "basis", for everything that can be called, "Goan".
It is also, the prime "uniting force", for Goans in Goa, and Goans all over
the Globe.
However, this same "uniting force" has been made a "dividing force", by our
politicians.
And we, the people of Goa, have consciously or sub-consciously, become a
"party" to their sinister designs?
Have we Goans, sold our conscience, for money?
Do our "fellow-Goans", not matter to us, any more ?
Was the age-old religious harmony in Goa, only a myth ?
Are we no more proud, to be called Goans ?
If these questions mean anything to us, then lets be a part of the GLOBAL
GOAN KONKANI FORUM, and work together, for "finding solutions".
I will share with you our proposed objectives on a BLOG, which will be set
up very soon .
If you have a thought to share, please do so, and we will listen to each and
every one of you.
We will be working TOGETHER for a better Goan community.*
We are proposing to form a LINK with Goa, through various Overseas GOAN
organizations, associated with KONKANI.
We owe it to our "Goan identity". We owe it to our "Goan Unity".
Rene Barretto has taken the "first" step.
I am taking the "second".
