I was staying away from this pao and that pao until you brought this 'ghatii' bit up and more importantly , that it's Marathi word equivalent to 'Pahadi' and 'Hill-Billy'. Actually my grandmother told me that the word used to describe her family was 'ghatan' people who crossed the ghats. In her family's case, her mother, for instance, rode a cart carrying salt, which her family panned to barter beyond the ghats and returned with buffalos and cattle.
