The Navhind Times of 22m August, 2008 has a 2 Col x 15 cm report entitled "Seminar on GU conversion on Aug. 23" on page 5. Its opening line reads "PANAJI: The Goa Education Development Corporation has organised a one-day seminar on the proposed conversion of Goa University in to a Central University on August 23 at NIO from 9.30 A.M. to 4.30 p.m." If the sentence construction seems to imply that the "conversion" will take place at NIO on the given date and time, it was unintended. I believe the sentence should have properly read thus: "PANAJI: The Goa Education Development Corporation has organised a one-day seminar on August 23 at NIO from 9.30 A.M. to 4.30 p.m on the proposed conversion of Goa University in to a Central University ." The GEDC organised seminar was held at NIO as scheduled. The GEDC is a registered corporation as a RTI with the Registrar of Companies will reveal. Its current Chairman, Mr. M.K. Shaikh, may be a congress man, married man,chairman of the GPCC Committee on goa University, following a religion that is a minority in Goa, etc ...but that is not relevant to the GEDC. The GEDC is not a Congress Party organ. It is a registered company. Does it shock you that the "Citizens [of Goa] Initiative" debate was intentionally dwarfed by the new seminar? The recently retired Registrar and Professor were the highest ranks that the Proposition mustered at the CI, of which you were a vocal part at IMB. You are on record contributing your voice, thoughts and Rs.50/- to the effort. The GEDC had two incumbernt VCs of Goa University and B.R. Ambedkar University and one former VC of two Universities ..Puducheri [Pondicherry]and Chennai [Madras].. besides a Director from the Union HRD Ministry's Dept of Higher Education. On the political front, the GEDC's reply to the General Secretary of GSRP [present in his capacity as CI Convener] was The BJP-turned-Congressman CM, RSS-turned-BJP Leader of opposition and a host of other VIPs. so politicians were never really far away from the debate , either at IMB or at NIO! If the Gen-Sec of GSRP can be accepted as a non-political convener, what is wrong with a Vice-President being a Chairman of GEDC that hosted the event? I still do not know who paid for the IMB hall, sound system, snacks, and tea ...Rs.510/- collected at the event was just not enough. The CI is NOT funded by the Govt. and so no RTI application is possible. We know Floriano Lobo is its self-styled Convener who wannabe an Oscar. You are not in the managing committee, neither am I. So how did the CI manage the expenditure? Did the GEDC not invite you, after all the effort you took to initiate the debate at IMB "in support of Dr. Budkuley" or something like that? Why do you pre-judge a debate when you had no problems with a known Congress supporter "moderating" the debate at IMB ? When the posting of Dr. Budkuley's views on the goanet were fine...why were you distinctly irritated when Mr. M K Shaikh's interview to NT's reporter was also posted on Goanet? Political? Communal? Foreseeing this, I refrained myself from attending, still in touch with what's going on every 5 minutes.. I would have attended this discussion had it been organized by EDUCATION department of GOA and not by any POLITICAL party intending to play POLITE game!!!
