The tragic death of Kundaim young lass Supriya Naik at Ribandar on 22nd August morning may technically be a road accident but the PWD engineers are definitely to be blamed for her death. The despicable condition of the road from Sao Pedro to Ribandar Patto after it was carelessly dug to lay a new water supply pipeline over five months ago is surely a contributory factor.
The people of Ribandar were fooled into believing that new pipes of a bigger diameter were being laid to ensure 24 hours water supply. This promise will remain a dream as the pipeline is dysfunctional till date and in all probalities the PWD laid the pipes to enrich the pockets of some people. The careless neglect of this accident prone road is deplorable and unpardonable. Are the PWD Engineers so insensitive that it would require that their own loved ones be crushed to death under the wheels like Supiya to awaken them to their sheer abdication of duty to maintain and ensure that the roads are in good and safe condition. The PWD Minister Mr. Churchill Alemao would be well advised to ensure good maintenance of the existing roads before pondering and contemplating over other hi-fi projects. His other option would be to team up with Health Minister Mr. Vishwajit Rane and build some more morgues instead as basic medical care at the Government hospitals is also in shambles while we are being fooled away with promises of super-specialty care.
