Twin murder: Accused confesses 23 Aug 2008, 0156 hrs IST,TNN MARGAO: Prime accused in the double murder case, Sunny, a small time businessman from Indore, confessed that he along with another accomplice murdered Rajendra Jamne and his sister-in-law Manu Pathak. Sunny, who had been brought from Indore, confessed during interrogation.
Investigations confirmed that Sunny had always wanted to get close to Manu and was in love with her since his school days. The couple was murdered out of sheer hopelessness, jealousy and a sense of failure on the part of Sunny. Police said that Sunny's name and phone number were obtained from Manu's diary and that they tracked him down to Indore and nabbed him. Rajendra had married Manu's elder sister, Pinky, but soon after the birth of a girl around 14 months ago, the relationship had soured. Pinky, under great stress, with her husband insisting on divorce, had once in a fit of rage scribbled on a piece of paper that she wanted to divorce him. By that time a clandestine affair had begun between Rajendra and Manu, and since February-March they were living together in Goa. Police said investigations in Indore revealed that when she came down to Goa, Manu had stayed in a hostel for a while. Sunny used to visit her and implore her to come and stay with him. When she finally chose to stay with her brother-in-law, friends and acquaintances started teasing Sunny about Manu's immoral relationship and looked upon him as one who had lost the battle for her heart. "This greatly enraged Sunny, who had on an earlier occasion even slit his wrist to express his love for her," police said, adding that they had recovered some love letters. Sunny had also approached Pinky, who works in a shopping mall in Indore, and pleaded with her to get Manu back to Indore. Sunny was brought from Indore by a five-member police team headed by police sub-inspector Ravi Desai late Thursday evening by train and the police immediately started interrogation as he had been brought on transit remand. Hunt on for murder weapon Sunny accused in the double murder of Rajendra and Manu at Margao was produced before a city court on Friday and given seven days police remand. Police said there is enough circumstantial evidence to prove the case in court, but they had to recover the weapon used for the murder and also the train tickets used for travelling to Goa on August 9 by the duo for committing the act as well as the tickets for the trip back from Goa the next day, August 10 (Sunday). Sunny told the police that he, along with his friend, reached Margao by train on August 9 and immediately visited the residential area in Aquem where the couple were staying and made inquiries with shopkeepers and the security guard. Sunny told the police that on Sunday morning (Aug 10) he, and his friend, loitered around the premises until they spotted the couple returning to their flat after making some purchases. "Both of us followed them, struck a conversation and entered the flat," Sunny told the police. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Goa/Twin_murder_Accused_confesses/articleshow/3394975.cms
