The truth may surprise you. While the Brits appear to be very polite and are
experts in hiding their views, they let it all come out when they congregate in
places such as the Goan forum for ex-pat brits at
http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=94

Reading some of the posts is an eye opener.

Most of the Britis are in Goa, not because they like the locals but because it
is a cheap place in the sun to buy into and exploit cheap local labour. They
indulge in activities that are illegal in any civilised country and that our
community consider immoral.

Due to the vagaries of the international monetary system, the low-income groups
and even the drug addicts of UK are able to enjoy, in Goa, a life style they
can not dream of back home. This new found station in life, undeserved at it
is, seem to have gone to their head. Instead of being grateful, their snobbish
traits have get the better of them. When we are friendly and hospitable to
them, many of them think that it is because they are superior.  They look down
on and despise us at every chance they get.
