Sandeep,
What becomes clear to me on Goanet everyday more and more is that we cannot
help but see life through the prisms of our own community's lenses. And that
ultimately is what is most "childish and whimsical" as you put it.
For the record, please show me a statement where I have derided Santosh. I have
always held him in the highest regard and infact that is what I have stated,
given his stature and standing in the community, his post is baffling. The
second article whose first line reads, "all this unnecessary furore over
burning churches", I think is an insensitive article to post at a time like
this. Had it come at another time or from someone else, like a Laluram, I would
have pressed delete without thinking much about it.
Understandably, as Christians, perhaps we have become hyper-sensitive following
recent events in India but unless one is a minority in India, I doubt one has
an inkling of the sort of collective hurt, anguish and general anxiety, the
community is currently going through.
Since you've spoken about the tradition of hiring women to cry at funerals, let
me tell you about another tradition that takes place all over the world,
regardless of class, culture and geography. To treat those who are grieving
with sensitivity and assurance.
This is my last post on this subject. More and more everyday, I believe India
is a lost cause, anyway, why worry my head over it.
