Four Ph.Ds for Xavier's Teachers
In the month of August 2008, four Psychology lecturers from St. Xavier's College, Mapusa, Goa, were awarded Ph.D. in the subject of Psychology under the Faculty of Social Science by Karnataka University, Dharwad. These teachers were guided by Prof. P. S. Halyal, former Head of Department of Studies in Psychology of Karnataka University.
Dr. Suhas Shetgovekar from the Abbé Faria Post Graduate Department of Psychology has been awarded the Ph.D. Degree for her thesis Health Modernity Assessment: A Case Study for Educational Intervention.
Dr. Michelle Pinheiro from the Abbé Faria Post Graduate Department of Psychology has been awarded the Ph.D. Degree for her thesis The Relationship of Role Ambiguity, Locus of Control and Quality of Work Life on Occupational Stress among Police Officers: A Comparative Study in the States of Goa and Karnataka.
Fr. (Dr.) Simao Diniz from the UnderGraduate Department of Psychology has been awarded the Ph.D. Degree for his thesis A Comparative Study of College Students under Parents and Guardians in relation to their self concept, adjustment, social competence and achievement motivation.
Dr. Ubaldina Noronha from the UnderGraduate Department of Psychology has been awarded the Ph.D. Degree for her thesis A Study of the Effects of Marital Status, Living Arrangements and Social Support on the Adjustment and Mental Efficiency of Elderly Women.
St. Xavier's College has dedicated the academic year 2008-2009 to research and it is a pleasant coincidence that four Ph.Ds were awarded during this year. Four lecturers from the Departments of Economics, Sociology, English and Botany are about to submit their theses and eight lecturers from the Departments of Psychology, Marathi, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Economics and Physics are registered for their Ph.D. Programme.
