The fallacy of our times is to try and assign reason to what is happening
around us. One of the things we want to know is why communal violence
repeatedly rears its ugly head in India. There is no reason, except that we are
inherently designed to take advantage of those is a disadvantaged position. I
cannot think of a tribe, community or nation where a majority or a dominant
minority have not taken advantage of a minority or disarmed and disrupted
majority.
The history of mankind has been about dominion, subjugation of the weak and the
stealing of resources. Whether it is the Jews who persecuted the Canaanites,
the Romans who persecuted the Jews and then the Christians, the Christians who
persecuted the Jews and Muslims, so on and so forth.I have no doubt that had
India been a Muslim majority by now it would have become an Islamic state. Had
it been a Christian majority, Hindus and Muslims would have suffered the wrath
of discrimination. Man has always sanctioned this conduct, on the flimsiest of
excuses and where reasons don't exist, they have been carefully crafted. The
only problem now is our 21st century moral zeitgeist won't allow for it. We can
see through the construction of these strawmen and we are aware of our rights
as human beings however disadvantaged we maybe.
India's problems with communal discord will continue to plague her for a long
time to come. Not because there are tangible reasons for it, but simply because
India does not have the political spine to curb an inherent human desire to
hate and maim that which is weak and not in a position to protect itself.
