Sewage mixes with water in Panaji again 27 Sep 2008, 0353 hrs IST, Andrew Pereira,TNN
PANAJI: Sewage entering the water supply network on the 18th June Road in Panaji has rendered water unfit for consumption along the road, as well as Menezes Braganza Road. But, timely action by authorities prevented a potential disaster. The mix of waters was realized after a resident on Menezes Braganza road received a repulsive stench while using the water late Wednesday evening. "The water smelt bad enough for them to realise that sewage had entered into the water supply network," a PWD engineer told TOI. A sample taken proved that the water was contaminated. "A lab test showed that coliform and bacterial levels were high in the water," Sewerage department officials said. Not wasting time, PWD and Sewerage department officials tried to find possible points where sewage could have entered the water supply. "The same night, we saw an overflowing sewerage chamber on the footpath right outside a popular eatery on the 18 June Road and we dug around a water pipeline nearby," the engineer said. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Goa/Sewage_mixes_with_water_in_Panaji _again/articleshow/3532766.cms ~(^^)~ Avelino
