:::Hey!..Whatsa gonna do during the Holidays?:::
-by gasper crasto / Kuwait

Eid Holidays..!

Yes. The holidays are coming up. All your co-workers, friends and family
have planned out something. Barbeque on the beach, hiking out in the desert,
going for the latest movie, etc, or go somewhere out of the country.. a
foreign tour!

What about you..!

“Are you going to do the usual stuff of the weekend – go shopping and clean
the house? Or try out those disastrous new recipes that you invent? What is
it this time?” I asked my friend.

“My wife wants to spend the Holidays in Saudi Arabia.” He replied rather
sheepishly.

Knowing my friend and his wife, orthodox Christians that they are by all
faith, I was obviously at shock to hear that. My friend said he too was at a
shock by his wife's decision. His wife is known to get the strangest ideas
every holiday, like taking a course in jive dancing even though she is
overweight. But going to Saudi of all the beautiful places on earth. His
initial reaction was to scoff at his wife but we all know that wives get
what they want, finally. Now, he was quite into the idea of going to Saudi
and visit Mecca and Medina.
“Hey, she wants to visit every Gulf country including Antarctica.” He said
sounding thrilled about it.

“But Antarctica is not in the Gulf....”

“The exciting news is that,” he cut me short, “in a few weeks I can cross
Saudi off my list of places she wants to visit. And hopefully I will get a
few cool souvenirs and pictures with me back home.”

“C-o-o-l..!!!!???” I exclaimed, knowing my friend’s interest in using his
digital lens everywhere he went.

“Cool????.. You think so? It is my year’s saving! ...”

“Then, don't you think you should spend more reasonably..” I said.

“That's it. I told my wife we are not going..,” He said, “You know what?
Actually, I am NOT happy about all these things especially about her
--taking all the decisions... ”

“Well, take out a pad and paper and write down the things that make you
happiest. What made you happy all these years? Was it playing football,
watching cricket, visiting places? Photography? Movies? Whatever it is, no
matter how silly, write it down.” I said.

“I think I love toy race cars and puzzle books.” He replied.

I was slowly starting to get mad at his unrealistic, funky answers.

“So, buy those toy cars and puzzle books and when you get home, play with
them.” I said bluntly. “Write a script and buy some puppets as well to act
for you! Or take pictures of the lights and decorations outside all the
apartments in your building, and develop your own rating scale and send your
neighbors emails letting them know who got best deco for color/lights, etc.
Learn to make your own fun. Keep yourself busy! And excited! Have a good
time.. Bye..”

As I was about to hang-up, I heard him chuckling sarcastically at the other
end. His laughter left me intrigued.

"Have a wonderful holiday meal with your wife..Bye..” I said, “don't settle
for a panv-bhaji or omlette if you want to have those Goan pork sausages for
breakfast – all the days of the holidays... Hey buddy, Listen. We do so much
for others throughout the year, you need to take care of the most important
person in your world, that's you silly! Do something for yourself and agree
that you won't let yourself feel bad about it. You deserve to feel good
about what you do. Play holiday music, take off your pants and dance around
the living room. Run to the kitchen, dance there for a while and get back to
the living room and dance again! I know it sounds silly! But sometimes it's
good, you know. Put on a winter jacket and Christmas father’s hat, and go to
town! Doesn't matter if it is summer or Eid. Who's going to see you anyway!
Have fun! Just have a good time..”

“Is that going to make me happy?” He seemed to have spoken to himself rather
than me.

“Don't allow yourself even one sad thought, and when you find one coming,
start singing at the top of your lungs...”

“Wish I could sing all my favorite songs to some live music.. all to my
heart’s content.. .. Yes..that’s one thing I wanted to do all my life..”

“Then dude, why don't you go where you and your wife can both get all the
happiness and inspiration that you deserve and desire..”

“Where...”

“The Nite O’Roses at Crowne Plaza. This Thursday..2nd October 2008.. You may
even get on stage and sing with India’s top band – The Blackslade, and the
other band.... it is just 2..S#arp to be missed.. .. and what’s more ---

:::BLACKSLADE TO BRING DOWN THE HOUSE:::

Blackslade, the band made up entirely of Goans, but based in New Delhi
happens to be one of the best bands in India. Blackslade aren’t your regular
musicians who come on stage, stick to their cozy spots and belt out number
after number. Rather, their electrifying shows charged with tons of energy
will wake up the sleepiest of souls...

What do you get if you get India's best drummer, the most talented guitarist
a bass guitarist like none in the country, an equally impressive guy on the
keyboards and a vocalist who is as young at heart as he is talented at the
task ..... ??? Makes for a lethal combination, doesn't it?

Watch the Blackslade bring down the house (Crowne Plaza) at the Nite O’Roses
- 2nd October 2008 starting 8 pm.

===
As the music enchants us on 2nd October 2008 at the Crowne Plaza in a
fragrance of Roses, it will also be a time to evoke how best we can love our
dear ones unconditionally. The event is only an excuse to tap and drive out
our blocks and awaken us to embrace unconditional love.

.. And if we succeed to touch just one life, that’s an achievement!...

:::JIVE COMPETITION - Excellent Prizes for Winners!!!!:::

A JIVE COMPETITION is going to be one of the Highlights of the show. Navelim
Youth Centre is geared up to make sure that the culture of 'delicate' steps
remain popular among the young and old. NYC's last dance nite in Kuwait
featured a Cha Cha dance contest.

Proceeds from the event will go to charitable trusts in aid of the poor and
less fortunate brethren back home in India.

:::Shahu to perform on Sax with 2..S#arp:::

Goan pop music has undergone a metamorphosis ever since its inception during
the Portuguese era. Today, Western music has become engrained into the
fabric of Goan culture. This ‘foreign’ assault has resulted in the birth of
a new creation of ultra-modern, dance-friendly 'remixes' with the Gen-X
hypnotized to its beats.

Contrary to the fast-paced music, Kuwait’s ace musician Shahu (Francis)
Almeida will provide some symphonic tracks at the NITE O’ROSES on 2nd
October 2008 at Crowne Plaza, taking on the saxophone - an instrument almost
forgotten by modern musicians.

Shahu will perform with his band 2..S#arp.
