September 29, 2008

To,
The Editor,

Sir,

Subject: Growing influence of Electoral Politics on RELIGION and EDUCATION.

We, at Goa Su-Raj Party are watching with keen interest the on-going controversy that the Goa University has been embroiled in vis a vis the 'Student Council Elections. We do hope that better sense will prevail out of this fracas on the Goa University authorities, and even more so at the Central level, to completely ban the University/College 'Student Council Elections' being fought on political party lines.

We, at Goa Su-Raj Party have always felt that there are two things that should not mix with electoral politics. These are (1) Religion and (2) Education.

For our part, the Goa Su-Raj Party is determined to put a stop at Goa-level for the road-side politics to creep into the sanctum sanctorum of 'Religion' and 'Education' departments. Furthermore, we at Goa Su-Raj Party are encouraged by the general mindset of Goans as voiced in the "VOX GOENKAR' of the Gomantak Times (September 29, 2008).

We, at Goa Su-Raj Party are of the qualified belief that the Central Political Authorities as well as the Supreme Court of India must step in to stem the ever growing electoral political influence over Religion and Education in order to put an end to experiences that have left soured the national image vis a vis incidents such as the demolition of Babri Masjid at Ayodhya and the sad demise of Prof. Sabarwal, a few years ago, at the university campus in Madhya Pradesh.

Thank you.
