Nostalgia Pic #16: _____________ 1959 - 2008: then and now: Dabolim international airport, Goa, pix almost 50 years apart. From a cute, countryside airport into a bustling international hub, one of the few profitable ones!
In the mid 60's, a decade after it was built, commercial flights were dominated by those cute, tiny Dakotas - and check-in was barely 40 min. before the flight - absolutely no security measures! http://2008goanconvention.com/nostalgia.php Today, numerous charter and wider-bodied Airbus' jostle for space, the international terminal caters for 250 pax - which, very strangely, is the exact number of security personnel guarding this air terminus - one for every passenger? IA official C. R. Gomes, a permanent fixture from the Dakota days, has since retired, to be replaced by clodhoppers. Gone is the charm that particularly made air-travel to Goa so quaint.
