Goenchem Jevonn by IAM

Well upon reading local news papers ads, somehow I got tempted to visit this
place at Woodbourne Country Club, Nuvem-goa for tempting ‘Goenchem Jevonn’ sort
of food festival presented by IAM (Institute of Advanced Management –The Hotel
School) on 27th & 28th Sept. 7.30pm onwards.

I arranged a team of three plus our driver.

The moment we stepped out of our car, we realized that we are either at wrong
place or I read it wrong. Boys and girls out there (welcoming the guests, not
many just us) with their suits/formal dress and two of us with T-Shirts and
sandals. As we approached the reception counter, there were even more staff
with laptops etc on the counter. At this time, our driver decided to stay out
of it (normally he joins us wherever we go).

Entry & buffet (Goenchem Jevonn) was Rs.150 per head (it should have been
Rs.100 as all the food prepared by the hotel school itself).

There was a welcome drink red colour ‘Kokum syrup’.

The moment we took our seats, a young lady come with the bar menu.
We reluctantly ordered a total of 90ml whisky costing Rs.105 (Rs.35/30ml) and
two soda Rs.20. (earlier, elsewhere, we had one round of 750ml for Rs.190)
Then she asked if we would like to order any snacks – ‘Naka re baba anik ani
snek naka, hi marog visky ghetlea ti puro’ said one of us.

Soon came a Goan 'poder' like with ponk-ponk horn except he was in chef’s
dress, he was selling cheuris paum in large stray hanging around his neck.
Small bite size bread Rs.10 each. We bought 8 and then again another 8. At
this time our tummy was nearly half full.

Now the time for buffet..

I first went for Xit-Koddi (Prawn curry rice). Opted for uklle Xit (boiled
rice) but boiled rice were of broken sized rice. The curry did not look prawns
curry at all. Then I went for Chiken xacuti, it looked like xacuti but did not
taste like xacuti. Then Pork Vindaloo, it was OK. Then we went for fish-
fried fish, there was no Visonn as told by keith Miranda over the phone, found
bangdde instead . Small pieces of rawa coated bangdde (mackerels) were not
fried in shallow frying pan but deep fried.
Deep fried fish – is it a part of Goenchem Jevonn?

Mr. Miranda also told us there would be a live band but what we saw there was
just one man band.

Sorry, all our money wasted. The whole jevon for 3 cost us Rs.725 + 700
transport.

Don’t understand as to why the IAM was making money despite of the fact that
there were at least 12 sponsors like Kingfisher, Goa Tourism, Radio Indigo, etc
etc

Authentic Goan food cannot be prepared in hotels or institute like this by the
people who are mainly outsiders.

Goenchem Jevonn?
I don’t think so. It looked like money making business
I give 3 out of 10.
