The Pehla Cup Finals was very well organized, well done, Organizing Committee, all the three games were played in the spirit of the game and it was well attended, the only flaw was the Protocol, which left much to be desired. It started just before the final game of the day, the grand finale when the players and Guests of Honor and their entourage where about to make their grand entrance the announcer started off by introducing the guest of Honor, as Arch Bishop "Mr." Felipe Neri Farrao, I was indeed struck by the "Mr. title" it may look irrelevant but it isn't, one does not address the Arch Bishop as Mr., the surname was another blunder, for a moment I thought it might have been a slip of the tongue, but after some time I thought I should go and correct the guy with the mike and later I realized that it wasn't the slip of the tongue but total ignorance of the title used for the Arch Bishop, I had indeed made the right decision by going down, because as soon as I told him that he had made a mistake he said "I know, the surname, but then I told him that the Arch Bishop is always addressed as "His Excellency" and not as Mr., he realized his folly and quickly made amends during the formal introduction. And later on, Nelson too made the same mistake when he started in Konkanni " Attam amcho Bism saib tumcam don utram sangtolo" it should have been "Manadik" Arch Bichop. The second thing that struck me was the way Mr. Nelson was asking the Two Arab Nationals, who were also the Guests of Honor, one a high ranking Police Officer from the Dubai Police and the other a high ranking Immigration Officer, the way he was inviting them to come forward to give away the different trophies with the wave of his hands, it looked like he was trying to drive away the flies sitting on the trophies on the tables in front of the dignitaries, it looked really awful, I hope the Organizing Committee will make effort to improve on their protocol in future. I was a bit disappointed that apart from the few words of H. E. The Arch Bishop no body spoke Konkanni, the question is, are we embarrassed to use our Mother Tongue or have we forgotten it ???? The first game was watched by not a very large crowd, Navelim played well and were deserved winners in the end. The second game, was worth watching too though ABC Benaulim were a bit unlucky to loose in the end. Over the years the standard of football has definitely improved. The finals of Pehla Cup was well contested between CAC Cansaulim and Vaxim Divar though VD were no match for the young fit and speedy CAC boys, VD did make a few good moves which showed their class at times. Orlando and Russel for VD were a light shadow of their former selves, probably age factor must be catching up with them although I am sure to be playing at the age takes some doing The crowd was full of noise, the usual Goan passes and laughs, honks and horns and the cheers. I did stretch my vocal cords, with vociferous support for CAC, in the end I was happy that I had not damaged my vocal cords because the last time I had really stretched them was way back during the Konkanni agitation. I was very impressed, with Vaxim Divar, when Russel announced that they offered the prize money to Santan's cause, a player of St Anthony's Siolim, who passed away in a tragic road accident in Abu Dhabi just a few days back. May His Soul rest in Peace. A great gesture indeed.
