Jason takes my points at a tangent in his response to Clinton's arguments against "Bandhs". He has written that: Let us remember that there are various activists who also call for bandhs. Pravin Sabnis has today indicated how in 1990 they laid seige to Panjim and prevented entry in and out of the city. Now I think it is a right of people to strike and to bring a halt to things if there is a right that has been violated, and the STate is not listening to this rightful demands.
My dear Jason, let me make it simple for you: 1. What happened in 1990 was not a Bandh. It was a students rally that turned into a rasta roko. Bandhs you see are done by threatening others to close shop. That particular rasta roko involved the courage of thousands of students who were ready to dare and face the consequences in a head on manner. 2. While it is a right to protest against injustice please do not ignore that this cannot be translated into a licence to trouble the lives n the livelihoods of the innocents and thus violate their human rights. That is the lesson in my 1990 story. Nothing more. Nothing less. cheers Pravin Send free SMS to your Friends on Mobile from your Yahoo! Messenger.
