Ref: Goan Football Lovers disappointed

It was a great moment for Goa and Goans, when Mr. Monte Cruz, the then Sports
Minister of Goa made the Nerhu Stadium at Fatorda a reality,

I, as a student represented Loyola High School, in a number of Interschool
Football tournaments at this venue in the early and mid seventies, when it was
just an open ground and I was really amazed and happy that Mr. Monte Cruz had
transformed this open ground in to a very modern Stadium, Football lovers of
Goan especially from the south were overjoyed and thrilled at the stadium and
the First Nerhu Cup tournament held in Goa was a great success, I had not missed
a single game of that tournament and I still remember the fantastic goal scored
by the Polish Captain Adamiac, a 35 yard left footer that sailed over the
defensive wall, curled in and crashed in to the left corner of the Hungrain
goal, from just inside the eastern touch line with a possible 25deg angle. One
of the features of that tournament was a banner that was put up by a crazy
football fan and he brought it every single day of the tournament, that read "
GOANS LOVE FISH, FENNI & FOOTBALL"

Now in to the third decade of the stadium and I wonder, do we really love
football as much as we loved at that time or have our preferences changed or are
we having an extramarital affair with cricket ? I say this because for a cricket
match all the care is taken to prepare a pitch which takes a good amount of time
and money as well, so if we can do that, why can't we do something for football,
if we have in fact changed our preferences, then it is okay, but if we still
love football, then, why on earth are Goan football lovers deprived of watching
our very own club play the AFC cup semifinals in Goa by having the match played
at Hyderabad, why are the flood lights not working ? Are the towers there just
for show ? Is the sports Minister only interested in getting the portfolio ? Is
the great Churchill Aleamao ignorant about this fact ? He is supposed to be the
biggest football fan in Goa, owning a football team as well. Micky Pacheco is a
cabinet Minister, who once owned a team too, what are you guys doing for Goan
football ? Even the AIFF secretary Alberto Colaco is a Goan and we cannot even
maintain the great landmark that our former Sports Minister had given us. This
is a disgrace to Goan Football. Our Politicians want to develop Goa, when they
cannot even maintain what they have, in the first place !!!

I was told that the ground belonged to the SAG and not the GFA, what does it
matter if GOA come first or last in the name of the Authority, it is the
property of Goa after all and it is the Goan Football Lovers who are the
loosers. Can anybody do something about this, I plead to all the big guns on
Goanet, activist, reporters, social workers and politicians, Goan Football
Lovers will be obliged if you'll can get this done.

All the Best Dempo Sports Club.
