The following news clip appeared on GOACOM.COM dated 23rd October, reproduced
from the Gomantak Times:

Do away with Portuguese institutes: Freedom fighters: The Goa Freedom Fighters
Association today demanded a probe and even stopping activities of Portuguese
institutions in Goa like Fundacao Oriente and also changing 28 names of roads
in Panjim city, which are named after the Portuguese rulers. During the press
briefing, freedom fighter Naguesh Karmali stated, "These institutes like
Fundacao Oriente and Portuguese Consulate continue to bring in Portuguese
culture, which are detrimental to our secular and nationalist values. It brings
in discrimination as they praise Portugal that is shameful." [GT]

These so called Goa Freedom Fighters are a pampered lot. They only seem to want
to remain in the news, lest everyone forgets them. How many actual freedom
fighters are there and how many pseudo ones are in this Association? The
Government has provided them with benefits including monetary for generations
to come, as though they are a “backward class”. What Freedom have they attained
for Goa? The freedom to commit crimes, rapes, thefts, atrocities; and also to
expel your body fluids and solids anywhere and everywhere in Goa?? Why are they
not using their mouths to bring forth the hardships the common man is facing
ever since their so called “Freedom” was attained? All they seem to be obsessed
is anything to do with Portugal. They are only exposing their ignorance &
delusionary mentality by saying it is shameful to praise another nation. Can
they cite one example of Portuguese culture that is detrimental to our secular
and nationalist value? On the contrary, this very statement of theirs go to
show how communal this press briefing was. Do they want to connect this issue
to the recent desecrating of temples?? What is detrimental to our secular
fabric is people with paranoid ideas.
We Goans are not ready to listen to their bogus sentiments. We need to preserve
our unique culture. If anyone of them is uncomfortable in Goa, our boundaries
are open. They could migrate to Bihar or Orissa where they would be comfortable
and not discriminated, as I don’t think any of these leftovers will be keen to
marry a Portuguese and migrate to Portugal like some of their predecessors.
