No plans to hand over German rape case to CBI: Goa govt 26 Oct 2008, 1517 hrs IST, PTI
PANAJI: Goa Government on Sunday said it had not given any thought to handing over the case of the alleged rape of a German minor to the Central Bureau of Investigation. The mother had accused State Education Minister Atanasio Monserratte's son Rohit and Public Works Department Minister Churchill Alemao's nephew Warren of sexually abusing her 14-year-old daughter. "The police are doing a fairly good job and there has been no thought about handing over the case to CBI," state Chief Secretary J P Singh said. The investigating agencies will have to reply to the Goa Bench of Bombay High Court on Monday, when Justice A P Lavade takes up the case for hearing, as to why the investigation should not be handed over to a specialised agency in accordance with law. On October 24, Bombay High Court Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice S A Bobde had taken suo moto cognisance of this high-profile rape case. The bench had called upon the investigating officers to explain what investigations had taken place and why none of alleged accused or suspects had been apprehended. Meanwhile, Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat has refused to comment on the investigations of this sensational case, allegedly involving the kin of two ministers. "Let the law take its own course..
