We extend to our Hindu brothers and sisters our cordial greetings on the occasion of Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Ushered in by confining the Narkasur - the demon of darkness - to flames, the feast proclaims the victory of the light of goodness over the power of evil. This affirmation is all the more necessary in the present difficult times the community in Goa is going through. Highly to be commended is the reported restraint with which they expressed their displeasure, once more giving victory to the light of patience, tolerance and peace over the demon of hatred, anger, prejudice and ignorance. Let this Festival be an occasion to all Goans for a renewed commitment to build a society of harmony and peace through dialogue and the faithful witness to our respective religious precepts and teachings.
