Albert writes:- I met Jane in the train. She had a bible in her hand and told
me that she is passing the good news of Jesus where ever she goes. She has a
story to tell me. Her husband was an alcoholic. He would enter the house
sometimes at 8 pm and sometimes at 9 pm. Jane could not tolerate all this and
waged a war against alcoholism. Result destruction and bombing and the end
product was Jane and her husband went to sleep without food. Her husband
normally was a jewel. Jane looked after the household while he worked. There
was nothing missing in the house but peace. Many times she left the house
thinking that he would leave drinking but no. She even threatned that she would
burn herself if he did not give up drinking but it was of no use. Nights were
really fearful and terror full.One day a friend of hers put the bible in her
hand and told her to trust Jesus. She began to read it. It was the first time
she was reading the bible and so she just read any pages that she could
open. The bible had only the New testament but she felt relieved after
reading it. She felt that she had to be converted first before converting her
husband. She began feeling emptiness in her heart. One day she felt she had to
talk sweetly to her husband. It had to begin one day why not today ? She
greeted her husband with smile and inquired about him when he returned home.
The husband walked out of the house to read the label on the door to find out
if he had entered the same house. Though he was drunk today he never waged war
on her. She helped him to undress and prepared him a warm water for bath which
he had never got in his life.She spoke about his work and said that he must be
really tired .She served him food and ate with him chatting all along. This
went on for somedays. She told him not to visit the bars but that he could buy
a bottle of his choice and drink at home. So a bottle of whiskey was brought
home and the timing of his coming home now changed to 6 pm and
the quota of his drink started decreasing on its own till he would take just
one peg. They shared their evening like good husband and wife. The children too
were surprised to see the change. The fear to be with parents at night got
converted into a evening of joy and happiness. So we need to convert ourselves
first before we try to convert others. Conversion is a change in the person .It
starts from the heart and as the blood flows it reaches to all other parts and
those outside you see the goodness in you and they too want to change. The
world can change if you change individually. Begin it yourself now .Try to
remove the beam from your eye before you try to wipe off a speck in other
person's eye. The bible is a repetition of "Love God and love your neighbour as
Jesus has loved you. It is written in different angles in different pages. The
Bible can be read by anyone wanting to change.
