Now that it is over, I hope the political class sink their differences and treat all acts of hate and violence with a heavy hand. There should be zero tolerance towards violence. Otherwise the sacrifice made by our brave commandos and police and those who died would have been in vain. It is time to set up an autonomous National Police Commission which will be outside the purview of political interference with adequate internal safeguards to prevent misuse and abuse of powers. The intelligence and security apparatus too needs a revamp. They have failed miserably. This is also the hour for all Indians to come together and take a pledge that they will treat other Indians first and foremost as human beings and only then with their other identities. We should not let this golden opportunity slip by.
Finally, let us all pay a silent tribute to all those who lost their lives in this senseless violence and pray that this never happens again. Regards, Marshall
