Dear Joe,

When we were little children we played the game of "Cops and Robbers" or
Chor-Pulis.

It is only in recent years that we have learnt that the  Konkani term for the
game is more appropriate ...robbing cops!

The game begins with the need to pay a fee ....allegedly of Rs.13 lakhs... to
confirm one's berth in the selected list after passing the physical, written
and oral tests in the selection process to become a trainee Police
sub-inspector. Once you begin the "recovery" process, the sickness afflicts one
like AIDS or drug addiction.
