A report by Melinda Powell In connection with its 2008 theme, YEAR OF EDUCATION, Goa Sudharop is holding various events in Goa. On December 6, 2008, Goa Sudharop in association with Vidya Vikas Academy, Margao held an interesting workshop "Puppetry in the class room". The resource persons were Sujata Noronha and Elaine Mendonsa of "Bookworm". 35 participants from different schools attended. The function began with the traditional lighting of the lamp. Mr Ibonio Dsousa,representative of Goa Sudharop explained the vision of Goa Sudharop. Ms Melinda Powell compered the function.
There were demonstrations of different ways to use puppets to impart education. A Puppet film "The man who planted trees" showed the use of puppets to endorse concepts in Science, Environment Education, and Language. There was also a hands on session where each participant was given a craft kit, and participants were taught to make puppets. A display of colurful sock puppets, marionettes, paper puppets, stick puppets. etc. was put up. The workshop was interactive, fun and extremely stimulating.
