I wonder if they are taking into considerion the construction waste that is
being dumped along the highway.
And what of those people defecating in the open right next to the highway.
First thing one sees on arrival by flight.

Collective efforts sought to curb Mormugao garbage menace
VASCO- In order to tackle the increase in garbage in the panchayat
jurisdictions, especially those lying within the vicinity of the flying zone of
the Dabolim Airport, the deputy speaker and Cortalim MLA, Mr Mauvin Godinho,
sought the collective efforts of the concerned panchayats and other agencies,
including the industries and hospitality sector, the authorities of the Airport
Authority of India (AAI), National Highway Authority of India, Indian Navy, and
others to make the environment green and clean.
A meeting of six sarpanchas of the panchayats within the jurisdiction of
Mormugao taluka was held in the chamber of the deputy speaker at the
Secretariat in Porvorim.
Those who attended the meeting included Mr Anacleto DSouza (Chicalim), Mr
Laxman Kavlekar (Bogmalo), Mr Ramakant Borkar (deputy sarpanch, Sancoale), Mr
Caitano Xavier (Cortalim), Ms Olga Souza (Velsao-Pale) and Ms Blanche Barros
(Cansaulim-Cuelim-Arossim), and the Block Development Officer, Mormugao, Mr P T
Mulgaonkar,
The meeting was also attended by Mr M Narendra (AAI), Commander Ramesh Shankar

Mr Godinho was optimistic about curbing the garbage menace with the support and
assistance of all the concerned authorities and agencies.
Zuari Industries Ltd has agreed to dig 12 pits in the Zuarinagar locality,
which comes under the Sancoale panchayat jurisdiction. The pits would cater as
a temporary solution for the segregation of wet and dry garbage for its
disposal and would be benefiting to the panchayat bodies of Chicalim and
Bogmalo.
The Chicalim sarpanch, Mr Anacleto DSouza informed that the panchayat body has
stressed on buying a new vehicle and has appointed a contractor to clear the
garbage in its jurisdiction. However, the Chicalim Panchayat has not identified
the garbage dumping site, informed Mr DSouza. Mr Godinho has asked all the six
panchayats to coordinate with the hotel and other agencies for the dumping of
the garbage and also to warn them not to throw the garbage in open. He also has
asked the block development officer, Mr Mulgaonkar to approve the files which
are lying pending with regard to the issue of garbage. The NHAI representatives
has stressed on door to door garbage collection.
I want to see that all the sarpanchas in Mormugao taluka really work by
putting their efforts together to tackle the garbage problem, said Mr Godinho
and further decided to award the panchayat who works for the upliftment of the
people and solves the problem of garbage.
