Dears,

The exhibition "Environment. ...You... ...and I..." at St. Xavier HS, Moira, is
really impressive. Coming from a person who is difficult to impress, that is
really saying things!Surprising that the next-door neighbour, Floriano Lobo,
has not posted anything on the net so far about it.

The exhibition is open to public from 08.30 A.M. to 1.00 P.M. and there is a
talk on Environmental Protection at 11.00 A.M. in the same hall [3 rd Floor]

"Without such practical and life-oriented projects and exhibitions, school
education runs the risk of being a lopsided-- and often unadapted -- verbal
transmission of knowledge." These are not my words. They are written in the
"Message" of the Archbishop of Goa and Daman and Patriach of the East Indies,
Filipe Neri Ferrao, printed in the Souvenir 2008-09, released by the school

"We are fortunate to have a genius in ouir school in the person of Mr.
Vijaydutta Lotlikar, who is a guiding light and who filled us with optimism,
and made us to visualise the positive outcome of this admirable project." wrote
Fr. Mariano Goes e Proenca, the Manager of the School and Parish Priest of
Moira's Immaculate Conception Church. A prophet is finally recognized in his
own school ... a rare thing in a DSE school, if I may add. May the tribe of Fr.
Mariano, Vijaydatta and Headmistress Ruby Gonsalves increase.

Vijaydutta has been recognised by Limca Book of Records, SFX School Siolim has
used himn as a Resource person as has the Goa Handicrafts for his exceptional
skills in coconut shell craft, his Crosses have been exhibited at Fundacao
Oriente through Alexyz ...and finally his own school gives him the grandstand.
I am happy to be associated with Vijaydutta, initially through my sister.
Fatima Antao, who recognised his value when she was the headmistress of the
same school. thousands of students who have learnt the skill from him bless his
name. Some even earn a living.

The students are really great. Not only have they been trained to explain the
exhibits [ a skill I most admired in the girls of St. Thomas Girls' HS, Aldona,
during the time of Sr. Mariola and Sr. Maria Julia AC and in the girls of
Carmel HSS, Nuvem, trained by Suvarna Fonseca e Antao in Nuvem as well as at
the Konkan Fruit Fest in Panaji] but they have also be trained to do "Role
Plays" to bring home the message. I was floored by two primary school students
doing the role of two neighbours and advising the safe distance of 15 metres
between the septic tank and the water well.

As far as the exhibits go, the stunning "frosted" lampshades made out of
plastic waste using an electric iron and some sheets of paper [to fuse the
plastic without getting it stuck to the hot iron] out-do the Coconut shell work
as I am seeing a lot of it from Vijaydutta ..... and now artisans from Kerala.

Roland Martins and GOACAN have got some wonderful and useful exhibits,
including the DRP 2021 Village Plan for Moira

Ms. Sandra Cardoz [Shot-put Steffi's mother] is a familar face as are
Ms.Shushila Porobo and Mr. Martin Noronha. I was happy to see Melinda Fernandes
e Costa and my dentist-classmate's sister Ms. Carmen Franco, the former brought
up in Aldona and the latter married there. Headmistress Ruby Gonsalves has
always been dynamic, whether in Corjuem or Santa Cruz or now in Moira. It is a
privilege to associate with her in making school a place for learning by doing!
If I was not a gardener, I would have been a teacher like my parents or my
siblings or my wife. Teaching is a learning experience. If it is not, what are
we trying to teach ...old dog tricks to new pups???
