HERALD REPORTER

MARGAO, DEC 14
In a murder that sent shock waves across Fatorda, a local resident of
Chandrawaddo, Paulo Faleiro (56) was beaten to death by a group of migrants on
the road leading to his house on Sunday morning.

The migrants also assaulted the daughter of the deceased, Sharon Faleiro after
she along with her mother came to the rescue of her father.

In a swift operation Margao police nabbed the main accused Krishna Yadav, a
native of Siwan district of Bihar, and four other suspects from their hideout
at Kirbhatt-Nuvem.

The incident occurred at around 10.30 am when Paul was returning home on his
two-wheeler when these migrants residing as tenants in the adjacent rooms were
on the road with buckets.

Margao police station incharge, Police Inspector Rajendra Prabhudessai informed
that these migrants are putting up as tenants in rooms leased out by Paulo’s
brother, Conceissao. Both Paulo and Conceissao have been on inimical terms over
a property dispute, he said.

Prabhudesai said an altercation broke out between deceased Paulo and the main
accused Krishna after the former questioned their presence on the road. In a
fit of rage, Krishna is believed to have picked a stone and caught hold of the
neck of the deceased. After being beaten up, the deceased was pushed down on
the ground, where he lay unconscious. He was later brought dead to the Hospicio
hospital.

Prabhudessai said no external injury has been found on the body of the
deceased, adding that the post mortem examination will reveal the exact cause
of the death. He said a case of murder has been registered against the accused.

Sharon told newsmen that she and her mother came out after hearing a noise
outside, only to find the migrants beating up her father. “I was also assaulted
by the three persons”, she added.

Local residents who thronged the house of the deceased complained that large
number of migrants are inhabiting Chandrawaddo and Fatorda area, including fish
cutters and construction
