Orlim schools, chapels missing in draft RP 2021! HERALD REPORTER Industrial estate shown in church property MARGAO, DEC 14 Even as many a Panchayat body in Salcete constituted the committees vis-à-vis the Regional Plan 2021 at the extra ordinary gram sabha meetings, a whole lot of discrepancies and errors have come to light as far as land marks are concerned. Take the case of Orlim. Schools and chapels do not figure in the draft plan. On the contrary, the draft plan has shown an industrial estate in the church property, raising objections from the gram sabha members attending today's meeting. "The committee constituted by the gram sabha will now make the necessary changes and send the plan back to the TCP with suggestions and objections", informed Sarpanch Godfrey Rodrigues. The Panchayat has constituted a 16-member committee headed by Patrick Cardozo. Activist Kim Miranda expressed her anguish that the Task Force has marked an industrial estate adjacent to the River Sal, apprehending that the location of the industrial estate would destroy the eco-sensitive zone. She pointed out that the River Sal has been a source of livelihood for the locals and opposed an industrial area near the River. Her sentiments were echoed by other members as well demanding scrapping of the industrial estate. The Colva Panchayat also constituted a 34-member committee at today's gram Sabha meetinsg. Members pointed out that discrepancies in the plan, with water bodies and sand dunes not shown in the plan as per the ground reality. The members demanded that the same be rectified. The committee will meet next Sunday to deliberate on the plan. The Cavelossim village panchayat also constituted a committee today. Sarpanch Edwin Barreto said that over 30 members have been appointed on the committee, adding that there's room for more members, in order to give wide representation to the cross sections of the villagers.
