Dear Ignatius, Your query (Dec 18) is most welcome. I do not claim to possess knowledge of the Sanskrit language, leave alone of Kanada but I shall answer you to the best of knowledge. Seraulim is known as Sural'le in konkani language but the Konkan railway station has already been sanskritized as Suravalli.Mungul is a hamlet but is part of Margao and so are Borda and Comba, wards of Margao. Borda as you have already stated could possibly have been derived from the Portuguese border and Comba appears to be a genuine konkani name. By the way Comba is the ancestral home of today's Margao moneybags.
Thinking of borders, I believe , old Margao's southernmost border was the road in front of the Post Office. All areas beyond it were parts of the Navelim village which were appropriated or misappropriated by the then colonial authorities in order to make way for Margao's new market area called Novo Mercado. So Margao Municipal Garden, Municipal Building,Fazenda or Collector's Office ,Grace Church,Police Hdqtrs (South) ,Loyola H.School, Fatima Convent,State Bank of India old Railway Station, not to speak of the bustling market area itself, were in olden times parts of the Navelim village.
