Fun, festivity and laughter were the hallmarks of "CHRISTIMES" the community outreach program, presented by Vidya Vikas Academy, in association with the P.T.A. On December 18,2008, Ana Fonte garden came alive with the noise and excitement of children of different abilities mingling together and celebrating togetherness. The pupils of VVA presented a variety entertainment program and the special guests for the evening were the children of Gujarati Samaj School for the handicapped. The brightly coloured stage with an array of bright red poinsettias was a fitting backdrop to the event. The evening began with the School Orchestra presenting a variety of popular Christmas songs. The School Orchestra, conducted by John Rodrigues, showcased a combination of talents of pupils of all ages exhibiting their prowess on the violin, guitar, keyboards, and drums. This was followed by Magician Savio and his wife Sophia demonstrating Balloon Art. Savio modeled and crafted a variety of balloons on stage ---Superman, different animals, hats, flowers and the ease and dexterity with which he handled the balloons was amazing. The audience was enthralled, and the garden resounded with claps from both children and adults present. Balloons hats were made on the spot and given to all the :special "children.

A Portuguese song "Tia Nica" was sung melodiously and confidently by the "challenged "children, of Vidya Vikas Academy, attired in colourful costumes. The pupils of the Gujarati Samaj School for the Handicapped danced to the popular Hindi movie song "Rock On". They twisted, gyrated, held guitars, and made all the rock star moves on stage .They really entertained the audience well and it was a pleasure to watch them perform without any inhibitions. Next was a Konkani comedy song about mobile phones by Seville, a pupil from VVA. His expressive cheerful countenance enlivened the song and delighted the audience. The finale was the VVA choir conducted by Ms. Archana Dias, and accompanied by Principal Alan Rodrigues. The choir, smartly dressed in red check skirts and white shirts, sang a medley of carols and they harmonized beautifully. The audience joined in singing "Jingle Bells". Children clapped and danced and enjoyed the opportunity to join in the community singing. Vidya Vikas Academy organized this program for the pupils to experience the joy that comes from sharing and reaching out in friendship to "challenged children", being sympathetic to the needs of others and being responsible and contributing citizens. Students from VVA contributed Rs 10 from their pocket money to buy a gift for the Gujarati Samaj children. Refreshments were also served to the children. The program ended on a happy note with Santa Claus dancing and prancing with the children.
Each one must take up the challenge to make the world a better place!!!
