After the terrorist attack in Mumbai, India could be legally right to carry out surgical strikes against terrorist dens in NorthWest :Punjab and in Pakistan controlled Kashmir region. But will these counterattacks solve the problem in the sense that there will not be anymore such Mumbai type excursion in the future ?
A war with Pakistan will no doubt, satisfy our desire to pay them back in the same coin but with disastrous economic consequences just at the very time when we in India are slowly coming out from our old age economic stagnation. It would be far more desirable if Indian Government declared a total war on corruption which will not be an easy task but will take at least 20 years of sustained efforts with concentration camps if necessary.The present Home Minister has started well but I do hope that he will be at it again and again till this hydra like creature is exterminated and buried for good. Let us hope that Sonia Gandhi will be at the helm of political affairs for a decade or two and with such able ministers as Chidambaram at her side she could really turn out to be the best political leader India has ever had.
