I have been living in Porvorim for the past 12 years, and have seen it develop
from being just a junction on the road to Panjim to what it is today. I have
therefore been witness to what goes on. I have noticed that over the past few
years, there has been a steady encroachment on (communidade?) land by the
Sidrudh Temple which lies opposite the water tank. At first, that land was
barren, and lay open, between the temple and the main road. Then slowly, over a
couple of years, tiny saplings were planted to enclose the area in front of the
temple, and grass was grown in the enclosed area. Now there is a bamboo fencing
that encloses this area. Tomorrow... who knows! My questions are... 1. Are the
authorities turning a blind eye to this open encroachment just because temple
authorities are involved in this land grabbing?2. Is it proper, for people who
preach about God and moral values and who are supposed to behave in an
exemplary manner, to act in such a flagrantly immoral manner
.If so, what then could we expect from us normal laymen? Antony GonsalvesDear
