'Goan fest' organised by BVIHM attracts 1200 guests

Goan food and cultural fiesta, 'Goachi Jatra' (theme dinner) organised
by Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Hotel Management (BVIHM) on January 16,
2009 at Bharati Vidyapeeth Grounds attracted around 1200 guests
including hoteliers and celebrities. The students had created a Goan
village ambience along with Goan cuisine to give an authentic feel to
the event.
Depicting the village settings the venue had a well, cattle, chickens
and, a few vendors. The students wore traditional Goan attire. There was
also seafood display on a boat with different varieties of fishes and
even the podium was designed as a huge boat. The menu consisted of Goan
wine, Vasco rolls, Ukdiche Chone, Prawn Caldinho, Chicken Xacuti, Mutton
Vindaloo, Goan Boiled Rice, Arroz Concoco among the others. The students
presented cultural programmes, magic show and games to entertain the
guests. Appreciating the efforts of the students, Lata Patil, Principal,
Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Hotel Management said, "The hard work of
the students had made this event a success. They have been planning and
toiling for days. Lots of research has gone into it, with students being
divided into different teams handling different aspects of the event."
Wilson Lukose, Assistant Professor, F&B Services, BVIHM, said, "It is
always been our endeavour to expose students to virtual real life
situations in order to help them gain practical knowledge. The students
thus gain hands-on experience and this helps them to be ready for the
hospitality industry."
