I am really amazed that Arwin is "amazed" at his anger at the Congress Party.
Which party is the alternative to the Congress in Goa? Have we not seen the
rule of the BJP make a mockery of the democratic system. The BJP led the Goans
a merry dance.
No party is perfect as an organisation and in administration when in power. The
option for the common man or the voter is to have the "lesser of the two
evils." In this case, between the BJP and the Congress.
There is no other significant party on Goa's political landscape that has the
ability, capacity and the appeal that can match either the Congress or the BJP.
It is ridiculous to say that the Congress is "working overtime" to destry Goa
and Its Identity. I doubt the Congress has a "hidden agenda" to do what Arwin
says. All the MLAs are Goan and I don't think it is in their interest to
destroy Goa.
Often the politician's personal interest or support to vested interest takes
priority. That's the major cause for the malfunctioning of the government. For
instance, take the pronouncements of Churchill Alemao when he, along with
others, founded the United Goans Democratic Party. It won one seat in the 2007
election and joined hands with BJP. Later, Churchill stormed out and formed Goa
Save Front.
Under the Panchayat Raj rules, if I remember correctly, political parties are
not allowed to contest village-level elections. In Goa we have seen that
candidates directly or indirectly affiliated to political parties run for
Panchayat posts. In many cases the candidates are friends or political allies
of MLAs.
A revolution begins at grassroots and, therefore, it is for the people to
initiate it by not voting to power candidaes who are politically-inclinded.
