AISI: Slumdog Crorepati (India Version)

The film releasing all over india Today i.e. 23/1/09.

But we watched it last night (special review)

At Inox both 8pm and 9.30pm shows were ‘sold out’

However, at Samrat (Talkie Town), 10.30pm, we were 7 and there were another 7
i.e. total 14 in all..

The film is all about Bombay slum-children – Jamal (Dev Patel), Salim (Madhur)
& Ratika (Freida Pinto)

Shown in 3 stages - as below 12, then in their teens and then adults 18+

It revolved round the Popular Game show ‘Who want to be the millionaire ? or
Kon Banega Crorepati ? Anil Kapoor being the host (not Chris Tarrant or Amitab
Bachan or SRK) and it’s 15 questions and Answer.

Each question asked reveals Jamal's past bitter life which is shown in
flashbacks

Some of the questions from the show..

Who was the hero in the Film ‘Zanjeer’ (Amitab)

Who wrote s a bajaan? (Surdas)

Who invented Pistol? (colt?)

Whose picture is seen on a 100 dollar note (Benjamin Franklin) & I thought
Abrahan Lincoln

What does Lord Ram carries in his hand (bow and arrow)

Name the third person from the ‘Three musketeers’ ? (Athos)

Jamal, as a tea boy at a Call centre wins the big money.

Initially, it has some ugly scenes such as child Jamal who was locked from
outside the toilet, jumps into the toilet gutter/pit full of human excreta
and then completely coated with shit from head to feet, runs through the
crowd up to Amitab Bachaan (not shown) just to take his autograph.

Second hair-raising scene was that a gang of child-lifter, pouring in acid into
a child’s eyes to make him blind for life and then to beg for them..

Did I like it?

Well, frankly speaking, I like it but not as much as ‘Thanks Maa’ which is
almost on the same lines i.e. Bombay slum kids, which was to be released in
February this year (We watched it during IFFIgoa Nov, 2008.

I would give one less star to SDC as my personal rating.

Whether an uneducated Chai-wala (Tea-boy) can win the big money from the big
show, that’s entirely different issue!

Also. all such game shows are essentially pre-recorded but this show seems to
be a live one.

And yes, the movie is British-India made.

If it was made by India only, I too feel the Movie would not have made the
International Headlines.
