Maxie Arts

When we talk or write about tiatr, we often forget about the
people who works backstage such as Makeup, Prompter,
Lights/scenes, sound, Podde/Curtain, Musicians,
stage setting people etc etc. who are equally contribute
towards the success of any tiatr.

One of then is also a Tiatr board artist.
It may be reminded that those day or until early 2000
all tiatr boards were manually done by some professional artist
using various oil paints.
(Now the same is taken over by the computer graphics/art
where a poster is printed which is then affixed on the
wooden board/frame etc – see a sample of modern tiatr boards below)

One of such professional artists was Mr. ‘Maxie’ (Maximiano Fernandes)
popularly known as ‘Maxie Arts’ from Nagoa-Verna.
We knew the board done by him as he signed ‘Maxie Arts’.

I even remember going to him once (many years ago) with a my
Doberman dog photo to get me a tabloid size (news paper or
the size of GO or GT Weekender) plate/board ‘Beware of Dogs’.
He had done the job so nicely that people never dared to enter
the gate which was about 50 mtrs away from the main door.
The board was put up on a garden Xmas tree/Casuarinas and was
visible 24 hours with special light focused on it at night.

Some how, I remember visiting Maxie at Margao, may be he was
living there too or may be I am wrong. It also appears that
he worked in UAE.
Maxie died on 24 Jan 2009. Funeral took place today 1st Feb.
He was 59.

No doubts, we all die one day but we do leave behind us
our good work which remains as fond memories
