To Goanet - In today's Times of India (Goa Edition) there is a paid supplement on the occasion of Dayanand Narvekar's birthday. Among the several paeans to the man is one written by Suresh Gundu Amonkar with the sub-header "Narvekar - Man of Integrity." A more shameless piece of schlock would be hard to find. Amonkar was recently awarded the Padmashri. Even more important, he is regarded as one of Goa's foremost educationists and teachers, who has for decades run a prominent school in Mapusa.
This is an indication of the extent to which the rot has set in. That the Goan intelligentsia, indeed our teachers, have now come to so cravenly genuflect before criminals and crooks is a terrible omen. r
