What a lovely surprise it was to read in the Navhind Times and Herald, too,
that the Fomento group is going to give a helping hand to the people of
Margao to solve their ongoing hellish garbage woes. The reason:
corporate-social responsibility.

Two cheers for the Fomento group!

I sincerely hope they will extend their social conscience and sense of
corporate responsibility to the workers of the Cidade de Goa hotel where the
Supreme Court has ordered the demolition of an illegal construction
resulting in the direct loss of jobs to a number of workers. These workers
need to b given jobs or paid a compensation package.

Until the Fomento group shows its willingness to uphold this laudable
principle in the case of the Cidade de Goa hotel as well, it will have to be
two, not three cheers.

Last, but not least, we Goans need to be grateful to a silver lining known
as the Supreme Court.
