But his music certainly does not show any. It is
astonishing that this noise-making mediocrity is
hailed as a "genius."

Just because the West lowers its standards in music,
it is no reason for Indians to follow suit. But the
brownie white-ass-kissing toads will anyway.

I guess this is what makes him 'great' ? (taking all
the sops tossed his way when he can afford to
pay up, unlike the rest of us 'ordinary' folk who
have to pay our dues.)

Mario observes:

Rajan,

Why? I think this is an additional award for putting India on the map with a
series of world-class awards.

I don't know what your problem is with Rahman, but the fact remains that he has
been acclaimed by his professional peers, and just won not one, but two Oscars,
in addition to other international awards. Carp all you want, but no one can
take that away from him and he now occupies the pinnacle of his profession,
winning against all comers from around the world.

The beauty is that this is a peer-acclaim award, as opposed to the political
machinations and motivations behind the Nobel Peace Prizes which are often
given to those who have done nothing for peace, in some cases, have done just
the opposite.

Besides, in a country of tax cheats, a cash award in the form of a tax
exemption is not such a big deal though it may deprive his tax accountant of
some incremental fees.

I have it on good authority that the same tax exemption awaits you as soon as
you win a Nobel Peace Prize for exposing the rape of the Goan countryside and
ambience and your dour and trenchant observations on Goanet:-))
