A Bridge Over Troubled Waters

The first four lane bridge in Goa at Usgao which connects Ponda and Pale, good
work, looks like our hosts of political dignitaries have wetted their pants or
"lingas" or whatever they wear on the lower half of their bodies !!! It's
certainly an achievement, I only hope and pray that it won't be the last by our
Government or the mining fraternity. Some thing like this was long over due,
with all the devastation to ecology and society over the years it's high time
something was done for the welfare of the people, even though this bridge is
mostly going to be used by their own and for their own benefit, the tippers will
get to transport ore at break neck speed. How much the people of the area will
benefit or suffer only time will tell. I have a feeling it's going to be a
bridge over troubled waters!!

At this moment I just can't help but think, how the people of Goa would benefit
four lane bridges at Cortalim, Panjim and Ponda, which are the busiest routes in
Goa, on second thoughts, no ore is being transported over these bridges,
probably that's the reason these bridges or rather the bottlenecks are in a
state that they are, and our over appeasing politicians, who are sustained and
nourished by the mining fraternity are like tail wagging pups anticipating their
next handouts, all praises for one project which will be used less by people and
more by the miners.

Our CM went on to say that we must congratulate the mining industry for their
social obligation, now I wonder what that social obligation might be !!! As far
as I know one is under obligation when some has done a good deed towards the
other, then the later is obliged to reciprocate it in kind to the former or in
the second instance when one is involved in a heinous act against another, then
the former is under obligation to rectify or compensate for the damage done, to
the later. We are all aware why the mining fraternity is under obligation to
society and The CM and the other elite bureaucrats are aware of the heinous act
and still sit tight with fingers up their nostrils doing nothing about it. Our
politicians do lack what is called unassailable conviction or commitment towards
the good of Goa and Goans.

In one of today's new paper, there was news that two students were killed by an
over speeding truck carrying ore. How many times has this happened, over the
years ? The frequency of such fatal accidents, in fact keeps on increasing by
the day. Why is the Government not talking any action against erring miners and
their drivers ? Does the blood of the innocent poor have no value in Goa ? The
blood of the rich is blood and the blood of Aam Aadmi is water ? The degree of
perfidy by the bureaucracy in Goa is very alarming indeed. We should all demand
that the Government puts it's act together, apprehend the culprits and their
mentors and take them to task and work towards saving precious Goan lives.
