The above statement is false in more than one way. The term Greenhouse effect refers to the phenomenon wherein certain gases in the atmosphere prevent the Earth from radiating its heat into space. As a result there is an increase in the atmospheric, surface and deep sea temperatures. The main gases that cause this warming are water vapor, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and chlorofluorocarbons. The Greenhouse effect can therefore result from both natural and man-made causes. Scientific evidence from several independent sources now indicates that the global climate change that we see today is substantially due to the net increase in carbon dioxide levels caused by human activity.
