Thanks and Bye. * * * CHEERS,* AMAR KANTAK *The Irony of Hypocrisy of Secularism and Communalism!* Hindu fundamentalist groups, which could be frontline organizations of some political parties are found claiming that the women, were “violating traditional Indian values” I would like to remind them that if it were not for Lord Curzon and Raja Ram Mohan Roy who abolished Sati, the Hindus more so due to virtue of their culture would even today have been witnessing their widowed mothers and sisters with their head shaved tied to the funeral pyre and being burnt alive. There is no need to elaborate on child marriages it is common knowledge. When a member of the Fourth Estate, Editor of Goan Observer Rajan Narayan a Hindu was gheraoed, threatened and attacked in his office by agitators comprising of Charles Fernandes of SEZ Virodhi Manch, Geraldine Fernandes of Benaulim Villagers' Action Committee and about 50 others. May I ask why did the Church authorities and Fr Maverick of CSJP not condemn the attack? Maybe there are some few who need a refresher course of the ‘TEN COMMANDMENTS’. During the last few years I have observed that in Goa many a fundamentalist frontline organizations of political parties under the garb of religion and cultural heritage misleading others into their radical ideology. The hypocrisy is that when a Church is attacked many a secularists condemn the attack, but when a temple is desecrated these very secularists are not even faintly heard. Is it required only of the Hindus to follow the path of Secularism? What are the reasons for growing religious resentment and hatred? We all need to ask ourselves these questions. All religious texts confirm that God grants life to human being to enable the soul to reunite with him through faith and devotion. Just as the soul resides within the body, God resides within the whole universe. God is omnipresent similar to the fragrance of a flower which can be sensed through only one of our senses. God can be perceived only through knowledge, harmony and with devotion in the heart to experience our proximity to Him.
